Welcome to the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering OHS site. The department is committed to provide staff, students and visitors with a safe working environment.

The department has implemented a proactive approach to OHS which follows University guidelines. However, safety is up to all of us, so please make sure that before you start a new staff member, student, or visitor, start a research project or modify an existing rig, you follow these steps;

  1. New staff and students will need attend an induction seminar. Refer to safety officer or general office for times.
  2. All visitors and maintenance personnel must sign in at the general office before commencing any work in the department.
  3. Any visitors or maintenance personnel that will be working in the department unattended will need have a site induction which identified all local risks and details evacuation procedure.
  4. All staff and students working in laboratories must display a current permit to work at the entry to the lab.
  5. A risk assessment must be completed before any small new equipment or research project is commissioned.
  6. A full HAZOP and CHAZOP must be carried out for larger equipment, such as pilot plants, before commissioning.
