Postgraduate Studies Handbook

Postgraduate Forms

Postgraduate coursework or research students who need to vary their candidature or enrolment are required to submit the relevant forms. The forms usually require a signature from the relevant lecturer or supervisor, final signed approval from the Postgraduate Research or Coursework Director, and from the Faculty.

You can print the forms from the Graduate School of Engineering & IT website or pick up a hard copy from the Graduate School of Engineering & Information Technologies (GSE & IT) administration office, located in Engineering Link Building J13, ground level.

Scholarships, funding, and the Research Office

The University of Sydney does not currently offer any scholarships for students studying postgraduate coursework degrees. If you are studying a postgraduate coursework degree and need extra funding, you should consider contacting industries or organistions related to your degree to check if they can offer any financial assistance.

Postgraduate Research students are encouraged to refer to the Research Office for information and updates on current funding opportunities offered.

Current scholarship holders should always check with the Research Office on matters regarding their scholarships and International Scholarship holders should check with the International Office.

The Research Office has provided information and forms on their website for students who need to vary their scholarship arrangements or wishing to claim a thesis allowance.

Postgraduate Research Support Scheme (PRSS)

Each year, currently enrolled postgraduate research students are invited to apply for the Postgraduate Research Support Scheme (PRSS). The funds are allocated by the university to provide funding for items such as conference attendance, use of specialist services, access to special publications and thesis production costs.

For full information regarding the background of these awards and what sort of expenses can be claimed, please read the PRSS information from the Research Office website.

To apply, simply complete the application form and return two copies of it, plus any required documentation to .

The 2009 application deadline is Monday, 19th May 2009.

Annual Progress Review

At the end of each year, each postgraduate research student shall provide evidence of progress and attend a progress review interview to the satisfaction of the supervisor and head of school concerned and any Faculty Postgraduate Review Committee.

On the basis of evidence provided and the interview, the head of school shall recommend the conditions of candidature to apply for the following year and may require the candidate to provide further evidence of progress at the end of one semester or such other period as the head of school considers appropriate.
