Strong research areas
The School is research-intensive and is a world leader in many areas of cutting edge research including renewable energy, polymers, magnetorheological fluids (smart materials), micro-reactor technology, sustainability, product and process design, process systems, fibre optics, bioengineering including biophysical, biochemical, pharmaceutical, and biomedical processing, bio-nanotechnology, and many more. The primary objective of our research is to develop advanced environmentally friendly techniques for processing various materials.
Much of our research is funded through prestigious Australian Research Council awards as well as direct industry funding. The school is also committed to fostering relationships with other organisations and industry collaborators to enhance the quality and relevance of our research activities. The school has nine research groups under the direction of members of its academic staff. We invite you to explore the research being undertaken by these groups in the following areas:
- Bioengineering & Biophysics
- Bioprocess and Advanced Wastewater Treatment Laboratory
- Complex Systems and Sustainability
- Combustion, Energy and Chemical Process Systems Group
- Drying and Process Technology Group
- Integrated Polymer and Systems Engineering
- Laboratory for Sustainable Technology
- Micro-structured Fluids Research Group
- Mineral and materials processing research unit
- Optical Fibre Technology
