Our Facilities
Facilities
The University of Sydney is Australia's first and oldest university, but we boast some of the best educational, research and social facilities in the country.
Just minutes away from the historic 150 year sandstone buildings of our main Quadrangle are state of the art lecture rooms, research laboratories and sporting fields
Laboratory and Experimental Facilities

The School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering has large and active teaching and research laboratories.
Throughout your degree you will be involved in various courses that involve hands on experimentation to help understand engineering behaviour. By final year, you may be working on a complex experimental or computational thesis, sharing facilities with top researchers in the field.
Visit our School's research pages to read more on our research capabilities and facilities.
In addition, the School has several 'pilot scale plants' , such as the distillation column illustrated on this page. These small-scale plants mimic the performance of industrial processors, enabling work with total relevance to the real-world to be carried out.
Lecture and Tutorial Rooms
The technology of Learning and Teaching is changing rapidly. Across the university our lecture and tutorial rooms have internet access and high resolution data projectors to aid students during lectures.
Computer and IT Resources
All students have access to the University Access Labs all around the university to use word processing and spreadsheet products and internet and email access.
Students have access to the School's PC laboratory, with excellent internet and printing accessability. Specialised engineering design, analysis and modeling software is available on these computers.

Library
The University of Sydney Library is a dynamic partner in the teaching, learning and research activities of the University.
The Library provides high quality information services and resources to support students and staff in all academic and research programs, and service units of the University; recognising the diverse requirements of individual clients. Through its services, staff expertise and programs the Library assists clients to develop skills for lifelong learning.
The library currently has over 5000000 individual holdings across various branch libraries in The University, but also provides on-line access to thousands of scholarly articles to aid in research.
The Engineering Library is soon to be upgraded into a new SciTech Library. The University of Sydney is building a world class sciences and technology library as part of the Campus 2010 project. The SciTech Library, due for completion in mid-2007, will be located on the ground floor of the USyd Central Building. The SciTech Library will be a major hub in a global network of information services; supporting the teaching, learning and research goals of the University by providing access to excellent resources and study facilities; and professional advice and training. The new Library will be an exciting environment for communication and collaboration; assisting scholars to tap into new sources of knowledge and experience emerging technologies.

Sporting and Social Facilities
Obviously University is about learning and for the more anthropologically minded, a lot can be learnt at either of the two student bars on campus (Wentworth and Manning). Weekly entertainment which can include such things as free or ticketed bands, stand up comedy, theatre, dance parties, trivia and DJs, and are all advertised in the Daily Bull (available from publication stands in the foyers of all Union buildings) and are postered around campus.
